Merge Replication: Content of MSmerge_* Tables

Hi All,
I have set up MERGE Replication with NOSYNC option and 14 days subscription
retention period.
My both the servers are in sync with each other since when I started
replication a month back.
But I find there are thousands of records in MSmerge_contents,
MSmerge_tombstone, MSmerge_genhistory.
I want to know how to get rid of all the unwanted entries from the above
tables.
Regards
Javed Iqbal
Javed,
please run sp_mergemetadataretentioncleanup and see if this helps.
Cheers,

|||Hi Paul
Thanks for your reply.
This stored proc is already been running by the merge agent every minute.
Any other option is highly appreciated.

Javed

|||Also I am getting these types of errors
The merge process could not perform retention-based meta data cleanup in
database 'ABC'.

|||Javed,
you could try increasing the merge agent's querytimeout.
Also, you could try reindexing the metadata tables.
If this doesn't help, please enable logging on your merge agent:
http://support.microsoft.com/support.../q312/2/92.asp
and post up the log file.

|||Hi Paul,
Attached is my agent logging file. I still have thousands of records into
those tables.
Thanks in advance

Occasionally you're getting network connectivity errors. When there are no
errors - most of the time - the metadata records are being removed. Apart
form the network errors, it all seems to be working correctly. You have a 14
days subscription
retention period which accounts for these tables not being fully cleaned
up - perhaps you can try reducing this retention period?

Merge Replication Slow after period of inactivity

Hi Guys,
I don't know if you can help, I have a couple of issue with Merge
replication running on SQL Server 2000 SP3a.
I install merge replication and build all the snapshot for the pull
subscriptions and create the subscriptions running on the local machines
(MSDE 2000). This particular installation has 70 local machines and 140
subscriptions.
The problem I am seeing is that if the machines are not communicated for a
period of time, even though no data has changed on the local machines or
server, it can take ages for the communications process to complete,
sometimes in excess of 3 hours.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue I would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks Tim.
Have a look at this white paper for hints on what causes this and how to
improve its performance.

Merge replication error??

Error: 29045--
Error: 0--The validity period of subscription went out. It is necessary to
re-initialize.
Error: 0--Subscription for 'SanyoMB_CE’publication is invalid.
Context:
Firstly, when I synchronized the above mentioned error occurs.
Although we carry out synchronization again, the same error occurs.
However, after 10 minutes, we carry out synchronization the third time, that
error does not occur, it runs normally.
What is the reason which make this error occur?
The reason you get this error is that your subscriber is off line for a
longer period than what you specified in the retention period or your
history retention period. Make sure both these values match and are set to a
reasonable level.
The reason you got the "Subscription for 'SanyoMB_CE'publication is invalid"
message is because your snapshot had not been created or had not finished
creation yet.

Can I ask you why after the error "Error: 0--The validity period of
subscription went out. It is necessary tore-initialize." occurred 10 minutes
, and I carried out the third synchorization, it run normally?
I did not restart the agent, neither reinitialized the subscription.
