Merge reversed

Running Win 2000 & SQL 2000
I have a merge publication/subscription (rows are
filtered by location), replicating data between 16
servers (15 remote location & a main office). When data
is changed at the a remote location, the changes gets
propagated to the main office, but at some point, the
change gets reversed.
Any idea what is causing this?

when you say it gets reversed, do you mena the row is deleted from the
subscriber? This could be caused if you are partitioning data and a row has
been added on a subscriber which doesn't accord with its filter.

|||Look in the conflict table, for the article, on the publisher. This might
give you a clue as to what is going on.

No the row is not deleted, but changed back to its
original state, prior to being updated at the
subscriber. This happens sporadically, but is causing
MAJOR problems.

There is nothing in the conflict tables for any article
in the publication.

|||I saw your reply to Rand and if both filtering and conflicts are ruled out
(and no user on the publisher is altering the data!) then this is very
strange. I'd use profiler or an audit trigger to capture what is going on.

Merge Replication w/ Web Synchronization Across Non-Trusted Domain

I have a requirement to replicate a portion of a 2005 database using merge
replication where the database server is in a workgroup at location A and the
web server is in an AD domain at location B. Both locations are connected
via a VPN.
Becuase of the disparate domains we are unable to push snapshots to a share
on the Web Server w/o using FTP. After specifying the FTP information in the
FTP Snapshot and Internet dialog, the following message is returned when
attempting to start the Snapshot Agent:
Message: The replication agent failed to create the directory
'\\172.27.1.187\unc\ftp\DAYMONJPSV02$TEST_CORE_APP RISCORE1\20071218021362\'.

You need to use a snapshot account which has rights to modify to
\\172.27.1.187\unc. You specify this account in sp_addpublication_snapshot
using the @.job_login and @.job_password parameters.
This account should exist on \\172.27.1.187 and your publisher.

security domains that the account should be local on both servers? Also, if
the publication has already been created, can it be modified to modify the

You can modify the snapshot account by right clicking on the publication in
SSMS, selecting properties and clicking on the agent security tab.

Merge Replication issue (dupe key)

My invoice header table has a primary key of Location# and Invoice#. If a
subscriber does the following…
Creates invoice with the primary key of Location 4, Invoice 100.
Replicates the data.
Deletes the record and recreates it.
Replicates.
I will get an duplicate primary key entry in the conflict table.
Is this because the replication ROWGUID is NOT the primary key?

the ROWGUID doesn't need to be the PK and almost always shouldn't be the PK.
When you delete the record on the subscriber are you adding the record back
on the publisher before synchronizing, or are you adding the record back on
the publisher? I'll try to duplicate this behaviour once you post back.

Everything is happening on the subscriber. Is created there, replicates,
deleted and recreated on the subscriber, then replicates again.

happening? Is the record changed on the publisher at any time? Also, can you
post up the exact error message.

Thanks for trying to replicate this and help us out. We are fairly
inexperienced in this area.
The merge agent history is showing conflicts on the last replication, but
the conflict resolver doesn't show any. Not sure how to find them. It says
28 resolved conflicts, how can I see what they were?
After looking into the situation more, there may be some other (user)
things going on which we will need to investigate further. The may be
updating and replicating from multiple P.C.'s in a manner we did not
anticipate.
After talking with them, if we can not determine what is going on, we may
have to ask again with more details.
